Getting Ready to Print Ich Maaya T’aan

I have been excited for the Saint Louis Small Press Expo and am preparing a set of prints for the show. Inspired by both political activism and cultural heritage, I have chosen to do a block print on homemade paper that translates BLACK LIVES MATTERS into the Modern Yucatec Maya language (Maaya T’aan). Additionally, I use the system of pre-Colombian Maya Glyphs to write the message. I am using a reddish brown paint that attempts to emulate the color of classic Maya writing.

Gocho Versolari’s “Reyes Magos”

Poet Gocho Versolari was honoured to receive third place in the Stanley Hanks Memorial Contest on May 15, 2016 for his poem “The Wise Men’ (originally published in Spanish as “Los reyes magos” in Corazon Land Review issue 3). The award is presented through the Saint Louis Poetry Center.

Below is his reading during the ceremony.
